Digital Nomads: Remote Working during Songkran
Many modern companies in Thailand operate with a hybrid or fully remote model. During Songkran, "Remote Work" takes on a new meaning as staff return to often-rural home provinces.
The Connectivity Challenge
While 5G coverage is excellent across Thailand, the sheer volume of people traveling can strain networks in popular rural destinations.
- The Tip: If you have staff working remotely during April, ensure they have a dedicated backup hotspot. Don't rely on "Village Wi-Fi."
Managing Expectations
Songkran is a loud, social holiday. Expecting an employee to be on a 2-hour strategic Zoom call from their family home in Isan while a parade passes outside is unrealistic.
- The Strategy: Shift to Asynchronous Work. Set clear deliverables for the week, but allow staff to complete them on their own schedule (early morning or late night) around the family festivities.
Respect the Boundary
If you have designated the official holiday days as "Off," don't send "urgent" emails unless it is a genuine company-ending emergency. Respecting the holiday boundary is the best way to ensure your team returns on April 20th refreshed and ready to grow.
