Post-Songkran HR Audit: Is Your Payroll Compliant?
As the dust settles on April, your payroll department is likely busy calculating the salaries for the month. Because of the long Songkran break, this is the highest-risk month for Labor Law Violations.
The Holiday Pay Rule
If your staff worked during the official holiday days (April 13, 14, 15), you must pay them Holiday Overtime Pay.
- Non-Daily Employees: Typically 2x or 3x the standard hourly rate depending on the specific circumstances.
- The Risk: In Thai Labor Courts, "mistakes" in holiday pay are treated very seriously. A disgruntled employee can use even a tiny calculation error to launch a costly labor dispute.
Social Security (SSO) Check-In
Ensure your accountant has adjusted the SSO filings for any new hires who started this month or any staff who left just before the holiday. Accuracy in April filings sets the tone for your compliance standing for the rest of the year.
Human Tip
If several employees took extra unpaid leave, ensure the deduction is clearly explained on their payslip. Transparency in payroll is the number one way to maintain trust after a long holiday period.
