The BOI Interview: How to Prepare Your Pitch
The BOI interview is the "Final Exam" of the application process. You will meet with a Project Officer (and potentially their supervisor) to defend the numbers and assumptions in your proposal.
Who Should Attend?
The BOI wants to see the Project Owner or a high-level executive. Bringing only a lawyer or a consultant sends a signal that you aren't personally invested in the Thailand operation. You should have your technical expert and financial lead present (virtually or in person).
The Three Questions You MUST Answer
- Why Thailand? (The BOI knows you have choices like Vietnam or Indonesia. What specifically about Thailand's ecosystem matches your project?)
- How is this innovative? (Be ready to explain your process in detail. Use diagrams if necessary).
- How will you hire? (They want to hear about your plan for hiring and training Thai staff).
Tactical Tip
Print three copies of your financial projections and your machinery list. Despite the digital age, being able to point to a specific line item on paper during a face-to-face meeting is still the most effective way to resolve a Project Officer's doubts.
