Digital Accounting: Reconciling H1 with Speed

Siam Advice Firm•Tax Analysis

If your accountant spends all of June "looking for receipts," you have a system failure. In 2026, the mid-year reconciliation should be as simple as clicking "Generate Report."

The difference is not the software itself—it is the habit loop. When receipts are captured weekly and bank feeds flow automatically, June holds no surprises. The nightmare version of a mid-year close is simply the cost of postponing five months of small tasks.

The Digital Reconciliation Flow

  1. Bank Feeds: Your accounting software (like Xero or Peak) should be linked directly to your Thai bank accounts. Every transaction from H1 is already categorized.
  2. Receipt Extraction: Tools like AutoEntry or Hubdoc allow your team to scan receipts during the month. By June 4th, every expense should have a digital image attached.
  3. Real-Time VAT: You should already know your input vs. output VAT for H1. Reconciliation is just double-checking for outliers.

Starting Mid-Year Is Fine

If you are still on spreadsheets, June is a reasonable moment to migrate. Pick a clean cutoff, bring over opening balances, and backfill the year's transactions from bank statements. The backfill is tedious exactly once—it builds the historical baseline that makes every future reconciliation instant. Choose software your Thai accountant can also access, so management reports and local filings draw from the same data.

Why Speed Wins

The faster you reconcile, the faster you can see your Actual Profit Margin. This allows you to make data-driven decisions for your Q3 marketing budget or hiring plan. If you are still waiting for a May "Profit and Loss" statement, you are flying blind in a high-speed market. Speed also changes your relationship with error: in a digital system, a misclassified transaction is found in days and fixed in minutes; in a paper system, the same error hides until an auditor finds it for you.
