Managing Peak Demand: Scaling Your Thai Workforce
Siam Advice Firm•Operations Analysis
By the first week of August, many growing foreign firms find themselves "under-staffed." The temptation is to panic-hire. In Thailand, however, a bad hire is much more expensive than a slow delivery.
The 3-Tier Scaling Model
- Overtime Management: Before hiring, look at your existing team. Under the Thai Labour Protection Act, overtime is limited to 36 hours a week. Ensure you are paying the correct 1.5x or 3x rates to avoid future legal disputes.
- Specialized Outsourcing: Can you move non-core tasks (accounting, basic data entry, or logistics) to a professional agency for August? This allows your core team to focus on high-value "Closing" and "Production."
- The 'Buddy' Training System: If you must hire new staff, pair them with a "Senior" for the first 5 days. This cultural practice (Pee-Nong) ensures they learn the quality standards quickly without disrupting the workflow.
Why it Matters
In August, your reputation is on the line. One mistake caused by an untrained new hire can wipe out the branding progress you made in July. Scale with Process, not just with People.
