TISI Standards: Navigating Thai Product Certification

Siam Advice FirmLegal Analysis

If your product is regulated by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), you cannot legally sell it in Thailand without the official TISI mark. As of August 2026, the list of "Mandatory Standards" has expanded to include more EV components and smart-home devices.

Mandatory vs. Voluntary

  • Mandatory Standards (Red Label): These are required for safety. They cover electrical appliances, construction materials, toys, and automotive parts. Selling these without a mark leads to immediate stock seizure and heavy fines.
  • Voluntary Standards (Blue Label): These are not required by law but are highly valued by Thai consumers as a "Stamp of Quality."

The Certification Path

  1. Factory Audit: TISI officials will inspect your manufacturing site (even if it is overseas).
  2. Product Testing: Samples must be tested by a TISI-accredited lab in Thailand.
  3. Surveillance: Once certified, TISI will perform periodic "market surveillance" to ensure your quality remains consistent.

Professional Tip

Do not ship bulk stock before receiving your TISI license. Customs will hold the shipment, and daily storage fees at Laem Chabang Port will quickly erase your profit margin. Always start the TISI process 4-6 months before your intended launch date.
