Laem Chabang Port Expansion: What H2 Investors Need to Know

Siam Advice FirmLogistics Analysis

Laem Chabang handles over 80% of Thailand's containerized cargo. As of August 2026, the Phase 3 Expansion is nearing full operational status, bringing automated terminals and deeper berths to the EEC.

The Capacity Shift

Phase 3 increases the port's capacity from 11 million to 18 million TEUs per year.

  • The Direct Benefit: Faster "Ship-to-Yard" times. In previous years, August port congestion was a major bottleneck for the Q3 expansion. In 2026, the increased berth space allows for larger vessels to dock simultaneously, reducing dwell time.

Smart Terminal Technology

The new terminals are heavily reliant on 5G and IoT.

  • The Requirement: Ensure your logistics partners are "Phase 3 Ready." Their systems must be able to integrate with the port’s real-time data feeds. If they are still using manual spreadsheets for port tracking, you won't see the speed benefits of the new infrastructure.

Strategic Location

If you are currently choosing a site for a new factory, the "Secondary Nodes" near Laem Chabang are currently undervalued. As the port capacity grows, land values in the immediate 20km radius are projected to rise significantly by H1 2027.
